Some may disagree, but I think being snowed in is wonderful! Perhaps if my husband weren’t a snow shoveling champ, I’d change my tune, but he graciously clears our driveway and walkways while I take care of our little ones and the little bits around the house.
With snow, comes quiet and for us being snowed in brings a welcomed stillness. For just a couple of days, errands, school, and running about doesn’t swallow up our day. Instead, we use those precious minutes to play board games, watch movies, have fun in the snow, and enjoy the company of one another. Everything is quiet and still; bright, clean light pours through the windows and floods each room of our home. There is no schedule; nowhere to be and nothing we have to do.
As we looked forward to the impending March snow storm, we made a list of the things we wanted to do. Everything from making a stop motion movie to drinking hot chocolate with an obscene amount of marshmallows made our list. In the midst of our preparations, I received a text from my niece that lead to us planning a tea party. Now, she only needed a single photo for the mother-daughter tea she is hosting, but in that request hid the opportunity to make something special happen.
The day before the snowflakes began to fall, we planned our menu, made a shopping list, and went to buy all of the ingredients and supplies needed for our special tea. I pulled out my polish pottery, that had been tucked away for years, and borrowed some serving pieces from my sweet mother-in-law.
As the snow covered the ground, we went to work preparing what happened to be the most lovely tea party any of us had ever attended. Our afternoon became filled with delicious food, lots of giggles, and precious time spent with the people we love most.
I want to encourage you to get out your fancy dishes, dress up a little, and make special meals just because. In the stillness and quiet of this blizzard, it became so abundantly clear that we have the ability to create a special occasion instead of waiting for one!
